What happened to WotC Product Covers?

Hope I am not the only one to ask - but what happened to the WotC Product Covers that used to grace the right-hand side of the page?

I would prefer them there even if it means it takes a bit longer for the page to display.

Thanks!

It's not just the load time of a single user - put enough images on the front page and the server slows down significantly. Not just images either - Everyone remembers my little Javascript fiasco in November.

The goal, I believe, is 4 covers, 3 of which will be ENPublishing (which helps keep the site afloat whereas WotC covers don't). Russ may of course change that at any time.

They made everythign sooooo much slower. Please don't bring them back!!!

They won't come back until we get a new server that can handle the bandwidth issues they create, and we may not bring them back then because the static menu bar is working quite well now. However, I do have some ideas on how to speed the system up that I'm working on now. Since I'm doing this work part time it will be awhile before they are realized.

Yeah, I did a brief analysis of the front page a ways back, and the long and short of it was that while they did look nice, they bloated the front page unbelievably, and that page more than any other needs to be as small as possible, since that's where (I'm presuming) the majority of the hits to the site are.

Maybe I am just waxing nostalgic about days past?

I enjoyed seeing the thumbnails of the WotC books before EN World became a business...

Oh well - I can only hope others miss them as well and voice their thoughts on it.

Thanks for the responses!

Do we have any idea on how long that will be? How much downtime will be involved? Will we lose any data? Will we have new user accounts? Any other questions that I'm missing but should ask? :)

1) Soon. Adlon of Mortality.net is putting together a final quote as we speak.

2) A few hours, I'd imagine.

3) Nope.

4) Nope.

5) Possibly!
