What happens if we don't like it?

Then they'll pull a Coke & re-release 3.5 as "D&D Classic". (^_^)

Which will again complicate the nomenclature for collectors & grognards.

Hell, I'm still trying to figure out what to call the Basic - Master ruleset pre-Cyclopedia.

I like the look of the 4e design team, and I am certain the product will be considered a success. However, I do not like the sound of some of the changes. So my question is this: what if we don't like it? I don't mind holdouts, I mean, what if 4e is not considered a critical success and does not fully supplant 3.5 in popularity? What if 4e is the Champions: The New Millenium of D&D?

What then?

4.5

It'll be here soon enough.

Shrug...

I kind of feel ambivalent about the system so far.

When I saw 3e at first I thought it was weird... then started really looking at the books and saw it made sense and was fun. SO we played it.

Same thing happened with 3.5 (although that made me a bit angry... seemed too soon, and thought re-release type products should have been updates, not totally knew products... shrug)

But I eventually thought it made sense...

4.0 leaves me... eh... not sure.

I like 3.5... maybe it'll just be a chance for me to have a "complete collection..." at a lower cost...

But I dunno Maybe I'll really like 4e...

Well, I am planning on only getting the srd - assuming it is available without being a part of the DI. If it is, the I'll stay with 3.5.

Honestly, I don't look for 4E to be as big of a success initially as they hope. Too many people like playing their 3.x version. Too many people don't like the thought of having to subscribe to an online community to receive "errata-ish" cannon-like words from the game designers.

I think 4E will become "the" game of play, but I think it will be slow in going after the initial frenzy. But the most important thing to remember is that the most important thing about what happens if you don't like 4E is that your wallet is allowed to get a little fat. If for no other reason, I'm looking forward to 4E because it means I won't be buying very many "new and gotta have" suppliments. If you don't like the game, keep playing the one you like!

Someone said it before. People vote with their wallets. People who buiy anything that is made just because they can't help it only encourage new editions every five years. People who pause and only buy what they like encourage well-thought out projects in the directions that they are interested. Buy 4E if you look it over and like it, of course! But if you don't like it, go back to 3.x and enjoy what you like!

I wish before buying 4e, people would actually take time to look through it at a book store or game store. If they like what they see, buy it. If they don't like what they see, leave it on the shelf.

Yeah, but, that would be, y'know, reasonable and all that. Why would you expect people to be reasonable? :p
