What happens to a summoned mount when it dies

Elf Witch

First Post
In Saturday's game that my roommate runs the players made a deal to give some monsters a horse to eat to trade for a kid who had been taken. The wizard used the mount spell to summon a horse they traded it the monsters killed it and ate it.

My roommate is new to DMing and let herself be talked into this my the resident rules lawyer who told her that summoned mounts who are killed stay around for the duration of the spell. Because thwy are not the same as summoned creatures.

I don't think this is right so I told her I would come here and see what you all had to say about this.

Hrm, I don't have a real reference for this as my PHB is on loan, but I think Mount is a [Summon] (?) spell, and if so, it falls under the same category as the Summon Monster/Nature's Ally line of spells, but I'd check the definition of the [Summon] descriptor in the magic section of the PHB. That means it would disapear either when the duration was up or when it dies.

Yeah, it's Summoning.

That's okay, you just have to tell the monsters to be sure to eat it alive. It's fresher that way.
