Earthquake?

Volcano?

Bizzare weather?

A comet?

Well, that depends. How much damage?

An eclipse? "Oh, we knew about this for while. The druids told us. Neat, innit?"
Earthquake? "My house fell over. It happens around here. Leave me alone."
Volcano? "Why would you live near an active volcano?"
A comet? "Pretty, innit? Good thing we sacrificed (goods) to Celestian/Pelor."

Ask the people of Pompeii and Herculenium around Vesuvius. or Mt St Helens in the US...or Mt Fuji in Japan..or Hekla in Iceland.

The soild around volcanoes is usually very good for growing things.
