I agree with all the above posts about the idea mine, the great community, the constant flow of ideas, the ability to ask questions and get answer quickly, but for me, the greatest thing was:

I met and joined the Hivemind.

This place has made me a smarter D20 shopper - I'm able to separate the wheat from the chaff better because of it. I've also found several people who's opinions I respect and whom I enjoy talking with in the threads here. Finally, I've also found at least two people who, were it not for geography, I could easily hang out with in Teflon Billy and SHARK.

very basicly:

- gives me a sounding board to tell the tales of my games both as player and as DM

- gives me a wealth of ideas

- and gives me a place to unwind after a crazy day at work reading about not only my favourite hobby but (eg in this forum) also about some off beat stuff

Seriously: it's made me a better DM, and given a good place to distract me from real world troubles, more than once. I've never found a place with such a good community, and since I got here, I've never looked for another.

Biggest thing ENWorld has done for me... Found me a gf, Seri. I met her when we both got promoted in the chat room about the same time. We just celebrated our 6 month aniversery.

Most recently, ENWorld helped me find a great pasta sauce for a dinner I was making for seri

ENWorld has been a source of insperation, storyhour kept me gaming when I was feeling very burnt out. People here have been such great friends.

I don't read the message boards very often, but come stop by the chat room and say "Hi!"

I love the House Rules forum. And recently, the d20 system/ogl forum. they are wonderful idea mines.

And I found out that I'm not the only gamer in Raleigh. I have a feeling I've seen other ENworlders in raleigh, but am not sure. just a hunch.
