What I Learned at GenCon 2004

Hey, that's masking tape, not Scotch tape.

Scotch tape is transparent.

And here I got all excited...

Whoever took the pic should have followed her around for a while. The adhesive on masking tape dissolves on contact with sweat. Don't ask me how I know that :D

Doh! Fixed.

All of you who posted earlier and didn't correct me on this should be ashamed of yourselves!

I really felt bad for poor Lt. Boomer, sitting there on the end of the signing asle. I walked by 4 or 5 times, and nobody was even talking to him. If I had been a Battlestar fan, I would have gone and talked to him, but not liking the show, I didn't know what to say. Maybe I shuld have just gone over and offered to teach him how to play Fluxx, at least that would have kept him occupied for a little while.

You could have adpoted him and brought him back to the ENnie booth!! :D

Hey! I just got an idea to fund the ENnies! Next year, YOU can sit at the ENnies booth, and sign autographs for $20 each. Or better yet, people can get a "Cutomized Especially For You By Crothian" post, and we can print them out for $20! Thank that will fly?

LARPing is tempting, so it must be bad
LARPing is fun, if you do it with the right people. The wrong system is bad too, but like tabletop, the wrong players will wreck things in a heartbeat.

Some people will buy ANYTHING
Isn't that the basic principle of our economy? What "Anything" had you so amazed?

There is little that is as depressing as watching a washed-up celebrity beg
Now, you could be watching washed-up out-of-shape celebrities beat each other up in a terrible stunt-programming boxing show, that's pretty bad. But if you were talking about Boomer, yeah, it was kinda depressing just watching him there. As one of my friends put it, "being best known as a minor character on a sci-fi show from a quarter century ago that was widely regarded as a flop isn't a ticket to immortal stardom". Now, I'm sure he's a nice enough guy, but it was just disheartening to see his table completely empty all the time.

People will happily stand in a long line for something, all the while having no idea what that something is
That's why you always ask at the end of the line "what line is this anyway?".

Nobody F***s with Marc Singer!
He was pretty cool, but what was the deal with him chasing someone down? Did he tackle a thief who swiped something from a booth or something?

Brilliant...I'm sure that will work. THank goodness you didn't think of it this year, we would have been so popular no one would have realized the new Gurps or WOD was out

The foam weapons, primarily... The ones you could see the duct tape on. Though there were other things too...

Actually, I was referring primarily to the dude from Dawn of the Dead... I actually witnessed him begging some people to come over. Boomer seemed to prefer quiet obscurity.
