What if everyone can heal?

I actually used my own version of vp/wp before starwars d20 came out (although my players and I have switched terminology since then for ease of reference). I think my original rules are on my website, and I'd been using a version of it since 1e days - specifically to reduce the reliance on clerical healing, as it happens (apropos Frostmarrows original question).

My aim in the short post above was to propose a half-way house - something that merged quick healing from superficial wounds and slow healing from potentially mortal ones, while not requiring any other changes to the system. I actually think it works better than the wp/vp system I'm using at the moment (because I missed the "life ebbing away as the battle rages on" which happened so much in our early games :))

Actually, the one thing that we did take wholly from the SWd20 rules was the saving throw against death when you reach -10hp (aka run out of wounds). Make that and instead of dead you are still dying, and must check again each minute for stabilisation or death. Without that I'd have had an extra 10-15 party deaths at least over the last year.

Cheers

Thanks to all for the info and the links on wound and vitality points. Plane Sailing, the summary on your site is perfect. I have sent a proposal to my group that we use this as a house rule, with perhaps some slight modifications.

Sorry for the slight hijack.

That's perfectly alright.

Yesterday I got my hands on a copy of Swashbuckling Adventures from AEG and it seem to be right up my ally. In the beginning of the book you find out that clerics (or druids, sorcerers or wizards) aren't suitable for their world.

Strangely there is no discussion in the book on how to fill the healing void left by the clerics. Sure, there is an alchemist class that can make healing potions and also a healing PrC. But the PrC heals by taking on the damage herself and the alchemsit is a tad limited (and not very swashbuckly).

We will try this system as is and if we end up half dead all the time we will have to make changes. In any event it's been an interesting discussion.
