D&D 5E What If? Marketing D&D in Asia

I dunno. Magic the Gathering is still huge here in Japan. I see it being played and sold at hobby shops all over the place. So, it's not like "western fantasy" isn't popular here. It goes over pretty well.
I've noticed that too. Several teachers are in to Magic here, which was initially a fair surprise.

Funnily enough, when I've tried RPG's with some of my higher level students, it's generally gone quite well. Now, I never tried anything so mechanics heavy as D&D with them. I use hippy dippy, pass the story stick type games because I want to focus on conversation anyway. Having a class long session that devolves into overly complicated bingo calling isn't my goal. But, it has gone over quite well in general. They like the idea of role playing. I just think there's been pretty much no inroads made here.
