How about this? they have two tiny vestigial legs on either side of their genitals that are only used during mating.

Sorry Elmo, I'm a biologist.

I was very alarmed by draconic hexapod anatomy when I was young. I felt like I felt the day I first heard about Microraptor the four-winged dinosaur. I felt much better when I learned that it wasn't a hexapod. But, dragons, they have six appendages. Creepy.

I'm much more comfortable with wyverns and drake's. I think dragonborn are more closely related to them and the kobolds are more closely related to "true" dragons.

Wrong, dragonborn where created by 2 true dragons polymorphing into humans and getting it on. The female then stays in humanoid form until giving birth. These 1st generation born are actually half dragons and when they lay eggs, that's how you get dborn.

My dragonborn origin myth is a lot simpler. In my campaign, the first dragonborn were created when a large group of Tiamat's cultists tried to steal her magic and transform themselves into dragons, and she cursed them for their insolence.

Were the cultists upset by their new appearance and abilities or did they accept it as a close second to what they wanted?
