What is a GOOD rules light system?

I've been looking at FATE a bit more closely. I asked over on RPG.net and found a couple of very good resources because of it. Homebrewed games has several good sites; Check out the astounding Agyris site. Evil Hat's wiki site has some very good suggestions for example Aspects.
Hooray for FATE!

I didn't get the whole toolbox nature of Fudge back when I first read it in highschool, but I definately appreciate it now, though I'd still probably never want to run a game of Fudge. FATE, on the other hand, I wouldn't mind GMing. I've been tinkering with FATE a lot, adapting "Aspects" and "Fate points" to other games.

That said, let me add yet another cheer for True 20.

My beef with True20 is lack of content, and a weird order for distributing content. I mean, which would you release first, a sourcebook for playing seventies stereotypes fighting the evil forces of Dick Nixon's killer bees, or a sourcebook that provides a magic system suitable for a fantasy campaign?

Don't get me wrong, D20 reads good, but content needs beefing up.

Well, we are trying True20 (it won out). It's been an interesting experience to try and create characters. We got a classic fantasy wizard/scholar/advisor with mental powers and no combat ability besides spells (and I am dubious that a low level caster can match a warrior). A charismatic soldier type who is really good at face skills. A two weapon dagger fighter (I got interested in how this was actually feasible in True20). Finally, it looks like we are getting a wolf who hits very hard (a fighter type).

Not really what you'd see in D&D and much less exotic then the Risus group; I think it will be fun to watch this evolve.
