What is Super Science?

Basically it's fantasy Science. It's science in books, movies and comics that isn't real, and is more or less hand waved away with the assumtion that it's science.

I'm assuming you've seen it used here in reference to supers characters, it's all the cool toys that the superhero's have that are beyond the technology level that normal people have in the story. Batman is good about SuperScience, as is the X-men's jet.

Everything Q makes for James Bond is another perfect example.

To me, it is science that needs to be spelled Science! (including the exclamation point).

A lot of Jules Verne fits into Science!, as does most of Flash Gordon, Doc Savage, many comic books, and, of course, Thomas Dolby songs...

Science! requires many flashing lights, big switches, Jacob's Ladders, bubbling retorts, and no real differentiation between various fields. Science! also requires Big Intuitive Leaps that throw away Old Science in a single flourish; it require any experiment to be Dramatic and automatically have incredibly useful (for the position) practical results, all of which is carried out in an incredibly short period of time (most of it is finished in the Ta Da! Nick Of Time! ).

Science! is a lot of Fun. :)

I'm not sure, but I think the specific answer you might be looking for is that it is one of the power source types in Mutants & Masterminds, along with mutation, mystical, training, psionic, and alien. It is a relevant game mechanic, as some abilities, immunities, etc. only affect or are affected by certain power sources.

Thanks everyone, I knew it was something from the Supers game, but I also wanted to know exactly what it was besides some game mechanic. :)

For me playing a gadgeteer in a soon to be started Champions game, Super Science is creating a weapon that uses a stable area of quantum uncertainty linked to a wave inversion chamber that creates a cold light laser. Technobabble is where it's at:)

Arthur C. Clarke is often quoted that, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." That, in a nutshell, is Super Science. It is any technology that cannot be adequately explained by the predominate society's level of progress.

Today, devices such as cloaking devices, anti-gravity belts, and faster-than-light drives would be Super Science.

One hundred years ago, computers, space flight, night-vision goggles and hand-held wireless telephones would have been considered Super Science.

It's relative to the time period of your setting.
