The move in which a person on his/her back gets into a standing position. Is that called a kick up or a kip up? Is there a formal term for it?

If it's a sort of energetic "throwing your feet under you hard enough to flip your torso on top of the pile then standing up" move, then yes, it's usually called a kippup or kip up. If you're rolling onto your feet in a sort of kneeling possition and then standing up, it's usually just called 'rising from prone'. One is more flashy, but both work :).

(I'm training for my black belt in aikido, and we do a lot of standing back up after getting tossed, so I'm not completely full of it when I saay these things :p).

I've always understood that it was called a Kip Up.
