Its a precursor to GURPS. I dont really see SJG releasing a competing version of their own game. I dont know about any license problems.

Steve did not create it. When the owner stoped doing RPG's he refuesed to sell the rights to it. This is along with the early success of Hero system spured the creation of GURPS.

Fantacy Trip would not stand up well into day's market because of its simplicity unless redone as a entry type game.

"Risus" by S. John Ross is also very simple and makes for a good convention game, IMO. But it probably requires an experienced GM to work smoothly, at least for "serious" play.

Risus is EXTREMELY derivative of Over the Edge... the only difference is that it allows for use of dice types other than d6's. That's it. To me, not enough of a difference. I have no respect for Risus.

The best game system for newbies is the D6 system from West End Games. Here's why:

1> It uses d6's (duh) which are familiar to non-gamers

2> WEG has licensed some well-known properties. Star Wars was the best for this, and if you still have WEG-SW it's the best choice, but they also used it for their Men in Black RPG. If you want to introduce a bunch of new people to RPGs, go get the MIB video, show it to your newbies, then haul out the RPG.

3> A straightforward, flexible system.

What's more, if I remember correctly, there are parties interested in purchasing the rights, but the owner seems to have dropped off the face of the planet.

Shadowrun is our simple nursery room sanctuary from the harshness of d20 system. Just roll a # of d6 equal to your skill at the action against a gm-determined target # & count successess.

I looked over Risus. It is pretty funny and simple. I want the cliche Latin Lover, so I can be good at running away from irate husbands. :D
