What is the point of the Rules Compendium?

At first it was great for the game, we could resolve rules issues quickly. But after awhile the DM liked to invoke rule 0 a lot and when the rules contradicted her she would tell us to put the book down and eventually banned it.

I have to say this is the most used book at our gaming table. Have barely cracked the PHB since I bought this about a year ago... very useful IMO.

Obviously your DM doesn't know Rule 0. Rule 0, coined from 3E, was that house rules must be agreed upon by everyone and provided up front. Rule 0 does not mean the DM gets to do whatever she wants, whenever she wants.

Rule 0 in all of my gaming groups I've ever played in was that the DM gets final say....I've only been gaming for about 15 years though, and I've only had about 5 distinct gaming groups in all that time.

I'm thinking the definition of rule 0 must have evolved....At least it still vaguely resembles the original? Unlike 4e which no longer resembles D+D at all.

I didn't buy the RC, but 2 of my current gaming friends did. We rarely use it.

In my mind, the whole book qualifies stealth erratta...Since it says its the new rule, but it's not free. Basically WOTC trying to tell me that the rules I play with are no longer correct and I have to spend another $30 to know how to play the right way again.

I don't have that option.

I am not a subscriber anymore.

About a year and half ago when Morris ran his plea to avoid going broke I resubscribed - but never got credit for being a subscriber and hence never got the "extra" features that entitles you to.

So I just won't do it again - even though I like this site a lot.

Did you try to clear this up with the admins ?

There is a reason I eventually quit the game. When I wasn't following her railroaded plots she would accuse me of not roleplaying even though I am a narratavist.
