what is the primary climate/environment of your homebrew?

Currently, my campaign was set in a cold, mountainous environment; think Tibet, Nepal, whichever you wish. However, to the south are plains (think india) and it changes around, as does the real world.

Something just right about barbarians standing at the top of mountains, surverying vast tracts of desolate land.

As per normal, my main continent stretches across several climat bands. Right now, my game is taking place in a chain of subtropical islands, with many lush jungles and much rain.

World wide? There is no *one* climate. It is as varied (and then some) as the Earth itself. Me personally, I hate the lazy scifi "every spot on this planet is like this one" monoclimate stuff.

Hence, "primary". I'm just looking for ideas on where people set their campaigns, rather than the world as a whole.

I'm kind of leaning towards donig something like this too. What did you use for resources for a setting like this? I actually got some really cool ideas from a show I watched recently on INHD. It was about a trip that Julie Roberts took to Mongolia. She stayed with some tribes and learned about how they survived and also about their horse-breeding. It didn't look like a fun place.

I'm currently working on a homebrew and I really want to get away from the stereotypical temperate fertile plains/rolling hills/green forest type of setting. I'm thinking of a cold and harsh environment similar to Mongolia or Tibet.

Does anyone have any unique campaign environments? What are some good resources for ideas? What methods do you use to convey the setting and geography to your players?

Well, by virtue of the fact that I have a large main continent, thus most of the inland area is desert or at least semi-arid.
I changed hydras so they are more common (they are reptiles, so they could also live in a desert), since I like 'em. Just wish they were faster.
