I'm stunned that "killing people and taking their stuff" is doing so badly.
Here's a vote for "killing people and taking their stuff". I like all the other stuff, but in the end, it all comes down to the ends of taking people's stuff. Part of the reason you're seeing "killing people and taking their stuff" doing so badly is that with so many other inclusive choices that also can lead to "kill people and take their stuff", and the ability to vote for only ONE option, to actually come out and say "killing people and taking their stuff" may seem kind of crass. For instance, being in a war as the leader....is about killing people and taking their stuff on a large scale. Crime? More about killing people and taking their stuff. Conspiracy? Intrigue? Somebody eventually dies and loses his stuff. The entire conspiracy and intrigue thing is to make sure that the person who dies isn't you, and the stuff winds up in your hands.

Me, I like crass. Sign me up for "kill people and take their stuff". "Meet other people from all around the world, then kill them" is pretty good, too. Actually, I'm not quite sure what I like more: Killing people, or taking their stuff. The two aren't even mutually exclusive: You can kill people, and they might not have any stuff, or you might not want to take it....or you can take people's stuff, and not necessarily have to kill them. But, of course, it's most fun to do both: KILL PEOPLE and TAKE THEIR STUFF. The entire "crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women" angle appeals to me.

Remember: Always pillage BEFORE you burn.

Sounds like you've been taking a page from the Vimes Book of Crimes, Norfleet.

I find the 'directionlessness' Cardinal mentions in the first post tends to be a symptom of sci-fi games, rather than fantasy. Trinity comes to mind. It's not entirely bad, it just requires that everyone reads all the material :)

I went for War as Leader, as I ahve many fond memories of Birthright, and this is about as close to the rulership genre as the poll gets. I disagree with Norfleet, in that war can be about something nobler, something greater than KPATTS; it can be about stopping other people killing you and taking your stuff.

This should have been a multiple choice poll. There are far too many of these things that I enjoy equally. Maybe it's because I don't get to play as much as I'd want.

Besides, I just enjoy gaming; any of those activities will do. I like fighting crime and trading less than the others, though.

I'll vote for "killing things and taking their stuff" as a 2nd choice as well.

My first choice is surprisingly not on the list: Ale and Whores!

Other- Being a rat bastard.

We mostly end up killing people and taking their stuff along a quest or 2. But that ok, I dont mind a bit of home invasion along the way with the puzzle solving. Dont do a lot of intreige, but theres always a few different sub-plots and secondary 'fingers in the pie' so to speak.
Then we find out who they are, kill em and take their stuff.

Though my main preoccupation at the moment is making other people dry-retch with certain 'fun' type of character I dont normally play. Its quite disgusting :)

killing people and taking their stuff

i mean, that's what it all boils down to.
you can't advance in levels without killing people as a fighter.
you can't advance in levels without taking stuff as a theif
you can't advance in levels without um stomping on your enemies as everything else.

Death, mayhem and destruction.
I like it!

I like playing an interesting and memorable character - and then trying to see the world through that character's eyes - perhaps even trying to get the other players to see through that character's eyes as well.

Thus, we have the Meglomaniac Gnome, the Insane Paladin who is not a Paladin, the "Pacifist" Assassin, and so forth.
