• NOW LIVE! Into the Woods--new character species, eerie monsters, and haunting villains to populate the woodlands of your D&D games.

What is your favorite monster?

Humans can do nearly anything... It's hard to beat the versatility and volatility.

Rust monster. Player's hate 'em. 'nuff said.

A red dragon is a sure-fire way to bring any game to a boil.

Vampires can be so inherently charming that it's hard not to enjoy portraying one.

Snakes for hair? Don't look in her eyes! Oh no... it's a medusa!

For humanoid types, Lizardmen, Gnolls, and and Hobgoblins, paticularly Lizardmen. Not only are they cool, but they've got that whole amoral neutrality thing that I love to play with.
Character1: Die evil reptilian wretches!
Character2: Lizardmen aren't evil man, they must have a reason for doing this, we should talk to them.
Character1: But.... they ate Bob!...like 5 seconds ago.
Character2: Oh right, like you weren't thinking about it too, besides who knows when they last ate?
Character1: Ah screw it, I'm going to go find some orcs, lets get out of here.

Arcanoloths! Fuzzy, evil, manipulative little b@st@rds that we are. :D

But I must admit to having a soft spot in my black little heart for tieflings, githzerei, and well... mephits! (Mephits do make such cute squeals when you do mean things to them).

Heh.

I used it on my players when they were about third level. They killed it three times then ran away.

... which was a wise move. They'd already completed their mission - it was just guarding a chest in the wight-priest's quarters. If they'd insisted on smacking it repeatedly just to get the loot, they deserved whatever they got... :)

Still remember the looks on their faces...

[whallop!]

"Well, that wasn't so hard. Okay, so I head over to the chest, and..."

Mrrrrrr-oooooow...

"What do you mean? Isn't it dead?"

:)

Do you know of any 3e conversion for this lovely little beast ?
I'd love to use it on my PCs

back to the topic:
I love Dragons (especially blue ones) and liches (not the 3e version that I think doesn't fit very well the "ultimate undead wiz" concept I love) as villains.
As monsters, I like intelligent undeads and shapechangers. I mostly use humanoids.
