Inspired to two similar threads based on rival companies :)

I've limited this thread to modules (though Necropolis may stretch the 'module' definition', as I feel Tome of Horrors may have an unfair advantage in this competition (though maybe not).

Necropolis by a long way. (Even if ToH had been an option).

It's definitely an adventure module, though - there's not that much Sourcebook information in it.

One thing stopping me from voting for most of the other adventures is that, simply, I don't have them. :( I have a hard enough time getting WotC products, let alone anything from NG.

Cheers!

I also voted for Necropolis (which is obvious now since there have only been three votes at this time--ALL for Necropolis).

I've got about 2/3 of the modules listed above. I found Rappan Athuk an inspirational read though I havn't run it and don't forsee doing so in the near future. But I liked reading it enough that I'll definitely buy the HC compiliaton coming out in the future.

Necropolis actually has a special place in my heart. One of the key moments of me getting back into gaming a couple of years ago was a Yahoo search I did for Gary Gygax (at the time I hadn't gamed since 1993 and I didn't know what he had been doing since his GDW days). One of the results was Necropolis, which led me to the NG site, which then got me to learn about D&D 3rd edition, and so on...

I've gone with Tomb of Abysthor which is likely to be a key area in my upcoming Unapproachable East campaign. Crucible of Freya is another great adventure.

I think Necropolis is a major work but, IMO only, it is not playable without a lot of work on the DM's part. Great ideas in there but really needs a lot of tidying up.

I'm surprised to see Maze of Zayene has got a vote. Did someone make a mistake?

I'm not that surprised to see MoZ get votes; RJK has his stalwarts, and there are definitely good ideas in the modules. The inferior d20 conversions are their main flaws - you might not like the style of the modules, but I've seen plenty of people not like Necropolis, either!

Cheers!

MerricB,

True, but but I have never read anything other than criticism of the Maze modules hence my surprise that it received an early vote.

I voted for the Grey Citadel, its a good concept, well written and well supported with additional stuff on the web. I will confess to not having run it yet
:(

I also like Morrick Mansion and Crucible of Freya, with CoF I was a player and now we've completed it I've been able to read it as well. MM is still at capsule review stage, but should be played through quite soon.

There are a few others I can't buy or read at the moment as the other DM in my group has them and is going to run them at some point.

I like a lot of the modules presented, so why Necropolis? Simply because it's the one I'll most likely run. Some of the others will probably find use as inspiration/source, rather than actualy being run. (though the smaller modules can allways serve as filler o rdemo material)

I went for What Evil Lurks. Its got that full 1st edition classic module feel which is sorely lacking in modules these days. It has plot, wilderness encounters, a dungeon and the outcome isn't as black and white as regular modules.

I am surprised that (currently) Necropolis has more votes than any other, and that few have gone for Rappan Athuk since that is NG's flagship dungeon.

Well, I would say the simple explanation is that Necro has the name "Gygax" on it and Rappan Athuk doens't (except in small print somewhere perhaps).

Perhaps there is a different explanation. Necropolis has a lot more to offer than Rappan Athuk. It really can be a setting book; it's certainly got a lot more than just the module. RA may suffer from the 'dungeon crawl' stigma, though I'm not entirely convinced that hurts sales compared to other adventures.
