I voted Goliath, because I think the game has been sorely lacking the "big strong guy" model that Half-orges used to hold in older editions. They have a fairly unique culture (based on competition) and aren't simply Half-X (like the half-giant in EPH).

Next are the warforged (RP potential), changlings (love shapechangers), Shifter (however too feat dependant) Elan (same concept as Illumains, but better done), and Raptorans (like the flying aspect.)

Not a big fan of the Xeph, Maenads, Half-giants, or Illumains.

I also love the Uldra from Frostburn in an appropriate setting.

HONORABLE MENTION: The Neraph from Planeswalkers. Lots of fun to play. I also like the Shadowswyfts. Worst race of all time goes to the Buomanns however. :-(

Nope. That would be the half-elf. ;)

I politely disagree

* Vow of silence. If you talk, you take a point of wis and -2 to attack rolls for 24 hours. Spellcasters must take a special feat to cast spells or use Silent Spells!

Sorry, half-elf gets it 5:1. Heck, the Half-orc isn't as as bad as this!

Put that way, you're right, the half-elf wins. But I'd actually consider playing a buomman monk. I'd never consider playing a half-elf anything. Of course, its like comparing rotten apples to rotten oranges. ;)

Although not great, the half-orc at least gets +2 Str and darkvision, so he's superior to both those losers, IMHO.

True enough I guess. I can come up with at least a couple good ideas for half-elves, but a one-trick pony for a buomman, and one I'd get tired of quickly. YMMV.

I still think the half-orc needs something, but thats another thread entirely.

The Eberron races are the only ones that I've seen in any book which struck me as well-rounded and interesting without being too wacky.

I voted Kalashtar since I find them the most intriguing - the notion of the shared spirit from the plane of dreams provided a nice link for natural psionics, the campaign link to the threats of the Inspired and the Dreaming Dark are very nice indeed. There is enough about them to give me good ideas about how their psychology can work.

Close second in my estimation are the changelings and the warforged, both with interesting abilities and, once more, a variety of interesting role-playing hooks.

Shifters I'd put a close third. All the others are a long way further back.

Just personal opinion, and from the variety of posts already in the thread it is clear that there are different horses for different courses!

Cheers

Naturally. It would be a terribly dull messageboard if we all agreed about alignment, paladins, whether PCs should be special, PC wealth, prevalence of magic, whether to rollplay or roleplay a Diplomacy check, what is balanced, which edition is the best, etc.
