Let me help you, chuckles. Charwoman Gene - and apologies if I misunderstood - is responding on the assumption that you believe the characters are too powerful for new players to understand, which is silly and insulting.

I think it's more accurate to say you believe the characters are too powerful to be 1st level characters. Which, since "1st level character" means nothing in and of itself, is just silly - or would you argue an OD&D 1st level PC is equivalent to a 3.5e 1st level PC? Assuming not, and assuming you find 3.5's level 1 okay, this is THE SAME THING. They just put some big scary numbers on it.

Have you ever considered looking at WFRP? They get to start as ratcatchers and dock workers and grave diggers - no more of those pesky and too-powerful 1st level wizards to worry about!

I never said that they 4e 1st level characters are too complex for new players to understand. I am saying that 4e 1st level characters are too freaking powerful for being inexperienced adventurers. I don't particularly like your condescending attitude and find you insulting.

I play D&D because I like D&D. I don't want GURPS. I don't want Warhammer. I don't want HARP or freaking Rolemaster. If I did I would be on forums discussing those games. I play D&D, period.

Based on?

I don't particularly like your condescending attitude and find you insulting.
Hey, two for two!

I'm not a big fan of your relentless, baseless doomsaying in every damn 4e thread myself. You obviously have no interest in 4th edition discussion beyond infusing a little extra negativity into them. I conclude that while not a full troll, you appear to be a strange hybrid that, while unharmed by fire, can be overcome immediately by use of a targeted Silence.

Looks like I've got initiative.
