Hello!

Just looking for some second opinions on a spell I'm making, we seem to be floating arround the six or seventh level for this spell, but we wanted your advice.

Level: ?
Comp: V, S
Casting: 1 Standard
Range: medium (100 ft + 10 ft/level)
Damage: 1d6/level (max 15d6)
Target: 1 non-magical flame
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving: Reflex 1/2 (see text)
Spell Resistance: Yes
Cost: None

You turn one non-magical flame into a 30 foot cone of fire, dealing 1d6 points of damage per caster level (maximum 15d6). The pre-existing flame is the point of origin for the cone, however, the cone can be aimed in whatever direction you wish. Creatures caught within the cone may make a reflex save for half damage. Those who fail the save must make an additional save, DC 15, or catch on fire for 1d4 rounds. Creatures on fire take 1d6 points of fire damage per round and may take a full round action to extinguish the flames which allows them a new save with a +4 bonus. A creature who immerses themselves in water or other non-flamible liquids automatically extinguishes the flame. Any flame of medium size or smaller targeted is automatically extinguished immediately after the spell ends.

And...just for fun...what would you call this baby?

Looks 5th level to me. "Wake up, oh Fire, and Dance."

I'd agree with 5th (same damage as Cone of Cold) except for the chance of catching fire.
Don't know if it's worth raising it to 6th or not, though.

I agree with the 5th level assessment. Requiring a convient fire source available definitely offsets the minor continous damage and the ability to direct the cone in whichever direction desired.

As for a possible name, a strange alliterative bug just hit me. How about Flamboyant Flambe.

I agree, fifth level.

(For the record, Cone of Cold is a *terrible* standard to set for this spell, as it is perhaps the weakest-damage-for-its-level spell in the game. However, this spell has a number of good advantages over CoC: 1) it operates at a range of medium, so the caster does not have to be at the other end of the cone; 2) the cone can face any direction from the source (i.e. does not have to face away from the caster) and 3) does some minor ongoing damage. The fire source requirement is an inconvenience, but not a large one, and does bring it down more accurately to 5th level than CoC ever was.)

And when a name's decided, this one gets added to my Spells file. : )

Just out of curiousity, what school are you thinking for it? I'm thinking Transmutation.

As for a name...nothing I can think of offhand is better than Very Lame.

Like...Cone of Campfire? Pouncing Flame? Arc of Fire?
