D&D 4E What level is your 4e game? (Poll)

What level is your 4e game?

Playing in a UltraModern 4e game at level 1, and DMing a mid-Epic weird fantasy/sci-fi/horror mash-up at level 26.

Game just got back together after a few months of taking a break. We stopped with the party at level 17-18 and decided to pick up with them transitioning to level 21 as they are headed to the Far Realm.

Just hit 9th and 29th in the two I'm running at the moment. Done the whole gamut except 29th and 30th, a few times now. The epic campaign will wrap up around January, give or take, and I think I might opt to play more than DM for a bit once it does.

I'm running Zeitgeist, and those players are currently level 6. In my girlfriend's game, we started at level 2 about two years ago and are currently level 23, in the final stages of the 4E Tomb of Horrors adventure. Both games should get all the way to 30.

So far it looks like about 3/4 of us ENWorlders are playing in games which are 13th level or below. That seems to equate to playing up till 9th level in a 20 level system. Now I wonder how much of this is preference driven by a lack of support for higher levels?

My group's campaigns end before high levels because the GMs run out of ideas, the GM's or players' interest in the campaign wanes, or the group is distracted by a new campaign idea. For us the lack of higher level support is not a factor.

Yeah, I have to say, I think that ratio is likely close to typical across editions. I don't think high-level play is all that common. Those 25% of players still need more support than they're getting, although I have to admit that seeing how PC complexity explodes as you approach epic tier has made me wary of running epic 4E at all, regardless of the amount of support.

I want to finish out my Zeitgeist campaign, but apart from that, my interest in running epic 4E has dropped sharply after seeing it up close. Too many feats, too many powers, too many conditions and conditional triggers. The game needs to be stripped down.

I'd never have done 4e to as high Epic if I wasn't writing the adventures for public consumption. Just not enough support at the times it was relevant, and I was kinda turned off by the WotC options.

Granted, War of the Burning Sky and particularly Zeitgeist might have worked better, so maybe I'd have had a chance if I'd started Zeitgeist right when it came out.

The campaign I run is just entering Paragon. The two I play in are in Paragon and Epic. Then there's D&DE and other casual or one-offs - those tend to be low-mid Heroic... Then there's con games - the last one I ran was Epic, the one before was high Heroic.

That and the time it takes to get to Epic. The Epic game I'm in /started/ at Epic, because the DM wanted to get some experience with it ahead of her long-running campaign reaching those levels (it's currently 15th). A /really/ good Epic module would be well-received, I think. Good in the sense of solid and playable and really showcasing the feel of Epic, more than inspired and extra-special-creative/different kinda good, if that makes any sense.
