Simply put, what levels do you most enjoy playing or DMing in?

Personally, I enjoy gaming with lower level characters, but have since started getting used to more powerful characters.

You did not include my favorite 1-20. I can't say I enjoy any group of levels more than others. As long as there is plenty of action, interaction with PC and a good evolving story to relate to.

I put the 11-15 range cause that's currently were we are in our game. I haven't played a d20 character any higher. At this level the characters are really good at what they do, and are slowly branching out into other areas.

Simply put I enjoy the mid levels' up to about 10 the most. Basically because they allow me to create the character and then role play them upm tp that power level. Then I can have a history behind the character, their items (remember when we fought that ettin and got your sword out of his hoard?) and with the other party members.

What I've found is that characters of higher level tend to get roled up starting at higher levels. This leads to characters that are just a stat block, or items that have no back story.

Don't get me worng, I love a grand hack and slash with maxed out characters as much as the next guy. But I love a well developed character that has a histroy and story behind him even more.

My other probelm is when characters start getting over 10th level the amount of magic they're lugging around can get pretty silly real fast. I've played in one that was well DM'd and we had characters in the 10-15 level range and had folks that had three powerful magic swords. The wizard had a wand for every occasion, etc. etc.

So 6-10 level for me. Hmm, guess that wasn't so short after all.

Apologies.

6-10. Rather, I enjoy running games where the PCs can manage a lot but are not powerful enough to defeat most opponents by default. So it's really around level 5-12 for me, I guess...

I agree with darkness. 5-12 is about perfect - big enough to tackle some really fun stuff because they aren't so fragile anymore, and have enough gear to be very flexible - but they aren't so big that they can be careless yet and expect to survive long enough to escape.

Plus, at these levels they've started to develop a reputation and a history.

But, I never ever get to play, so this is all from my perspective as a DM.

I put 11-15, which is the range my game is in right now (and actually, the highest 3e game I have run.) I enjoy 6-10 too (there is a lot of potential for adventures in that range), but the fact that 3e will bear these levels has been a joy. The PCs can do great things but are not unmanageable. I can run the epic plotlines that I like to run in this range. Good stuff!

5-10 for me... but not without surviving the first five!
When you're finally able to scoff at an orc, but not really a major power - that's the best time.

1-5 for me. I love the tension that you get from facing challenges that really are above your power level in most cases and then beating them. I always seem to have a bigger sense of accomplishment clearing a den or orcs or putting down a local gang of thugs than i do smacking down yet another dragon/giant/demon.

My player's party (the 11-15 one) is played from 1st level. (Well not all of them where there since then, but still.) I see no implicit reason other than time to assume that double digit level character had to be started higher that first.
