My favorite high fantasy setting is Ptolus, but it is $100+ and not a good first setting for anyone to use. (It is, however, big and heavy enough to fight off an armed intruder, in case that's a concern at your table.)

For a dip-your-toes-in setting, I'd probably find Lost Mines of Phandelver (not Phandelver and Beyond) or Dragon of Icespire Peak (same setting) and use that. (The original Starter Set or the Essentials Set, respectively.) That should keep you occupied for a decent number of levels, it's a classic village hub and if you love the Forgotten Realms, there's more stuff coming this year that you can cleanly segue into.

I'm so intrigued in Ptolus.

When it comes to that setting is that ALL you would use for a campaign or is it a place you'd put into your world?

It has a light world setting, which we've fleshed out over time. It gives you enough broad strokes to say "pirates go here, barbarian heroes come from here," etc. The overall tone of an empire on the verge of civil war, etc., all play out in different ways locally.

The city itself is the big selling point of the setting, and is where our campaign is situated now, but for the first eight years or so, we were out elsewhere in the empire and beyond its borders occasionally.
