I can't remember what my first character was but I know how he died.
I joined a community college class when I was in middle school, that would be about 23 years ago. About 25 people were in the class, and there were 3 DM's. The first day, the guy asks us all to come up to his desk and roll a d6. If you rolled a six, you moved on to the next round, if you didn't you sat down. I rolled a 6, as well as some of the others. This went on 5 rounds, and I the 5 round I rolled a 4 and the other last fellow a 3. I was to become the party leader! I have never played before, I don't think I had a book, I may of had the Basic book. Anyhow, I devided up the gourp three ways, one for each of the DM's and one for each of the 'hints' that we had to follow. I assigned other leaders (based on the die rolling thing) and led my group off into the swamp to look for the mage in the castle there (I think this was Saltmarsh or something like it). Anyhow the mage fireballed our entire group right then and there. Whosh! Toast. All 8 of us.
Anyway, that's how I died the first time and I was hooked!
