  • None, have more monsters than I will ever need.

I voted for aberrations, because the only requirement is to be downright weird. Some have tentacles, some have multiple eyes, it doesn't really matter. It just needs to seem alien and out there. Other creatures don't have the luxury of being so flexible, except for maybe Fey.

Giants: I think this category has much more potential if people would start making them truly gigantic (Gargantuan or Colossal) or bizarre (Geriviar, for example).

personally I don't think the giant type is needed - afterall whats the difference beween a giant and a gargantuan monstrous humanoid? but yeah more giants could be fun (oh and what is a Geriviar?)
Then again I think Outsiders work better as templates so we may not agree...

I voted Outsiders.

There are some types of monsters which I always treat as species or races in our settings: e.g. (Monstrous) Humanoids, Undead, Dragons.... Others I treat usually (but not always) like unique monsters: e.g. Aberrations, Constructs.... meaning that after I had the party meet one, that one is possibly the only one of its kind in the world.

For this reason I may want more aberrations or constructs, but at the same time I think there are already way enough.

Instead I was planning about treating demons (or fiends in general) as unique beings, instead of how they are treated normally. This could be a nice touch to a new setting, having each outsider unique, so for this idea I'd definitely like to see more of them around. In any case, there are never enough demons IMO :)

Aberrations since they are just an odds and ends anyways. They have the most diversity and that is their strength.

More animals is a good thing. There is a lot more to Earth's fauna than the barnyard and game species.

Magical beasts combine the above.

Vermin- there are no books at all on oozes and vermin. Though there are some spiffy templates for oozes, I don't see how a book can be written on them. Vermin, however, are almost as diverse as aberrations.

Actually, I agree with you that giant doesn't need to be a different type. I see no reason to not all the humanoid and monstrous humanoid types to go from Fine to Colossal like everything else.

The geriviar is a four-armed, armor-plated giant from the MMIII. It produces spiky growths that it can dislodge and throw as exploding nodules. It has a variety of other special abilities and an interesting story. It's a giant type creature that breaks the mold a bit.

I don't agree on outsiders as templates, though. ;)
