What next, after Sunless Citadel

Crazy Monkey

First Post
My player's characters are just about finished with the Sunless Citadel. They have made their way to the ending and cleared that part, and only have to get back out at the begining of next session. So, between then and now I need to figure out what we can do next.

The characters are:

Level Race Class
3 Human Samurai
3 Human Cleric
2 Elf Sorcerer
3 Human Fighter/Bard (1/2)
2 Human Barbarian
*2 Dwarf Fighter
*2 ? ?

*Characters were a human shaman, and a elven rogue, but both perished at the end of the citadel.

Suprisingly, they had a tough time with the sunless citadel, even with twice the number of pc's than suggested - and no tweaking on my part. (Although I was rolling pretty well). It was extremely entertaining for my part though, I have never had such amusing pc's. They spent a good hour geting off the old road and into the citadel. 3 Dire rats almost killed the party in the second fight of the game (well, after the barbarian fell off the edge on the cleric, knocking them both out). They are the curious type as well - they spent well over an hour pondering about mundane items found in the dungeon, thinking them some clue to some self fabricated puzzle.

At any rate, I'm looking for a good published adventure or campaign to run through. I was going to just go buy the Forge of Fury, but I figure I'd ask around here first.

Do you have access to any issues of Dungeon Magazine? I recall that there seem to be a lot of decent non-dungeon adventures for fairly low levels recently. They might enjoy the break of being in a city or trekking through wilderness for a bit.

I'm not a big fan of Forge of Fury. Instead, I'd recommend that you look at Morrick Mansion or Tomb of Abysthor. Both are by Necromancer and have free web enhancements available. Tomb is a straight up dungeon crawl, if that's what you're looking for. Morrick Mansion is both town and dungeon based, and has the benefit of being a future home-base if you are so inclined.

Generally, I think Necromancer's modules are well done. You won't waste your time looking them over.

I don't have a subscription to Dungeon, but have one or two laying around the house. Never dm'ed enough before you get use out of all that information.

I've asked the players what they are interested in next, but no one really gave a solid answer.

We had fun through Forge of Fury, although it was on the plot-light side. I'd agree with Buttercup about Necromancer adventures, although I have not read either of the modules she has mentioned. The Vault of Larin Carr (sp?) was well done, and may suit your players, as there are some interesting clues and mysteries to mull over. The only drawback I could see would be that it rather requires the inclusion of a valley, which may not suit the map of your world. On the plus side, it includes a fairly well described valley. It has a number of mini-adventures and quests, which provide the means for the title adventure. I liked the interconnectedness of events and characters, and short adventures, as well as the opportunities for repeat interactions with NPC's.

PS- can anyone tell me more of the Morrick's Mansion of which Buttercup speaks? I haven't seen this one.
