What, no thread for the 2007 NHL draft?

Well, since I'm from Minnesota (The State of Hockey) I figured I should comment.

the Wild had a so, so draft. We got Gillies, who should be a good player someday but we really needed a scorer or a defender. Gillies is fast and big, but not a finisher.

OTHOH, we had 14 local boys drafted this year. That's pretty impressive given our population. :D

NHL is dead.

Maybe he didn't get the news...

NEW YORK -- The Stanley Cup finals have brought record low ratings to NBC for a prime-time program, sports or otherwise."

Worst primetime ratings...ever!

Another great article that showcases how ridiculous and irrelevant the NHL has become:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/070625

This one is written by Bill Simmons, who is currently the best sports writer in the business, bar none.

As a general sports fan, I find it absolutely mind-boggling what the NHL has become. If you documented the timeline of the NHL over the past 20 years, it would read like "The Idiots' Guide to Destroying a Sport League". Could be doing better? That's the understatement of the century.

If you are a hockey fan, speak with your wallet and your viewing time - boycott the NHL. Seriously. Bettman and the rest of the owners need a wake-up call because apparently the lowest Stanley Cup ratings in history isn't registering with them.

The sooner the NHL dies, the better it will be for hockey.

The NHL wont fold as long as it manages to stay profitable. And while it may not matter much at all to the US, it does still matter in Canada.

Besides, cracking jokes about people still watching hockey is like cracking jokes about people still playing D&D. Sure, Hockey is a niche sport at this point. But it is still closer to mainstream than D&D.
