I haven’t played Torchbearer but also have heard good things, but I’m also going to vote for Dragonbane. It does classic dungeon adventures quite nicely. I have one group that’s an interesting mix of very old school gamers and new, young players and it’s proven to be the nice”meet in the middle” rpg that has an old school feel with new school sensibilities. It’s like BRP but you can buy neat abilities for your non-magic characters.

It's also enough different from D&D and its derivatives that it feels like a fresh experience.

Dragonbane has a lot going for it. While I generally prefer Shadowdark, there are enough elements of Dragonbane I want to steal that I should just cobble together a "Shadowbane" ruleset.
