D&D 5E What previous edition books would you like to see re-done?

As usual, I'm hoping for a mix of all things new and old.

With the current style of play, I am expecting a whole slew of new "splat books" (if I'm using the term correctly) that are focused on new class paths/archetypes as alternatives to prestige classes. Given the "under-developed" number of options, those should be very enticing as they come along.

Most of my "I wants" are going to be dependent on what is in the DMG!

I have to say that as the guy who always DMs, my players had the most fun in my homespun Eberron campaign; my players still lament that they stopped pushing out the mass market paperbacks in the Eberron 'verse. If they came out with new and shiny Eberron stuff, I think I'd be sold.

In fact, just thinking about that now, I'm salivating just thinking about how a new artificer class might work :)

Eberron - actually I'd rather just have an update pdf so I can keep using my 3.5e sourcebook. The "Last War has just finished" timing has a lovely, tense, dark, cold war feel full of factions and agents that I'd rather not have trivialised by marching the timeline on.

Planescape Original Flavour, please. Oh, how I loved that setting. Just amazing. Such weird adventures. Got to get Tony DiTerlizzi on board, though!

Psionics - if done as a new system that does not echo the spell system almost exactly. Kind of like 2e psionics was totally different to magic (even though I was highly suspicious of it when it came out). I think psionics needs a unique flavour and mechanic.

I like the idea of Psionics, but in the last few editions it was either just "Spellcasting that can avoid anti-magic fields" or else it was super-powerful without any real trade off.

I can still remember my wife's psion heart-stopping a super-villain the first time they met; it was a slight case of luck, but being able to drop a campaign villain when you're several levels below them in a single shot (without crit hits) seems very overpowered to me! :)

The complete book of Elves. All races are not equal and I liked it better when there was a lot more detail as well as mechanical power to them.

Psionics Handbook - I love psionics. I haven't been able to play as a Psion since the original 3e version. I used the Thrall power on another PC (who was being a dick) and succeeded. His character actually ended up being far more effective in the game after being forced to follow my orders. I would have thought he would have hated it, but he actually had a lot of fun plotting on ways to twist my orders and trying to get freed.

Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting - A boxed set, like AD&D, with maps if they really wanted to impress me.

Arms and Equipment Guide - I know what a flail is, but a new player might not. The older PHBs went into detail on the weapons and armor, and weren't just a table. I was a little disappointed how the 5e PHB lacked a lot of fluff and pictures on items, weapons, and armor.

Unearthed Arcana

Class Guidebooks

I'd love it if they did a new version of the classic Dragonlance campaign. Not a new edition, but a complete rewrite, a new take on the same story. It's something that happens a lot in cinema and which has - to my knowledge - never been done in RPGs. I think it would be very interesting.

Agreed. Dragonlance was one of my entries into D&D, eons ago, with the War of the Lance trilogy. Since then, it's gotten.. eh. Bad.

I'd like to see the Dragonlance Campaign Setting (rebooted) and a book on the Towers of High Sorcery.

A lot of good stuff above, but I what I want reprinted could be represented by single letters: Ss, Gs, Ds, Xs...and an FF (Fiend Folio) would also be nice.

Hiya.

I'm not sure how many people said this...but I'd like to see a single "Adventurers Survival Guide" that combined the best aspects of the 1e Wilderness Survival Guide and Dungeoneers Survival Guide. Those two books get referred to all the time in my games (be it 1e, 5e, Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play (1e), Advanced Fighting Fantasy, Talislanta, Call of Cthulhu, Star Frontiers, etc, etc, etc).

Campaign setting wise, I'd be keen on a well-done, Birthright setting, as well as a Dragonlance. Although ALL/ANY campaign settings they do put out should be in BOX FORMAT (like the Starter Set).

I could also see an annual or semi-annual book or box that was kind of like an Unearthed Arcana that had a bunch of cool different rules, some spells, equipment, etc. that came out in various other sources throughout that year(s) in modules, addendum's, etc.

What I don't want? I don't want a specialized book dealing with a single thing. I don't want a "Book of Feats", or "Book of Spells vol.1", nor do I care for a "Psionics Handbook" or "Fighters Book of Hitting-Stuff-Hard". I want the best of those things, and only the best, all put into a single book/box. Once a year or two. Not ever month.

Alas, I don't think I'll get my wish...but this thread isn't about what we think we'll get, but what we hope we will. :)

Add to that the third part that was never published (nor promised):
City Survival Guide
I always hoped for that to round out the adventure areas.
