D&D 5E What previous edition books would you like to see re-done?

I really don't want to see a huge amount of splat books. However, some supplements would be welcome. I think the biggest one we need as a community is the hardcover book that covers Psionics. I don't care if it is only a Psionics book or if it covers other things. Until the official Psionics premiers we are going to be be stuck with unofficial hand made conversions of Psionics from the style of two or three different editions that aren't compatible with each other or even necessarily the fifth edition.

While a lot of folks mentioned Oriental Adventures and I think it might be interesting it is really a campaign setting more-so than a supplemental book.

Does wanting Dungeon magazine back count? Honestly, that's my one big wish, the rest I can bash together on my own.

An Eberron book would please my players, I suspect.
If you include Dragon magazine, this is my short wish list.

The longer list includes:
  • The gold & red Greyhawk box, complete with the maps of alignments, resources, etc. And weather.
  • 1E Oriental Adventures
  • 3.5E Complete Psionics
  • 3.5E Magic Item Compendium (at least in theme -- a vast treasury of magic items was surprising awesome, but no single item or sub-system stands out)
  • 3.5E Spell Compendium (again, at least in theme -- I'd love to see a single resource that converted a ton of older spells)

I'd also tend to think that doing a one-off book for most of the existing settings would provide at least sustainable sales without being a burden to WotC (i.e. each one paying for itself without glutting the market with new splat-book rules). Specifically, I'd buy all the following, if for no reason other than to read and have on my shelf. No need to ever produce another supplement or adventure:
  • Dark Sun
  • Dragon Lance
  • Ravenloft
  • Birthright

Alot of great suggestions but a few dozen people requesting new versions of old material might not be enough to convince WoTC to reprint stuff. Especially if the average DM is cheap and thinks outside of the proverbial box IE by just converting old material to his 5E campaign which is not too hard to do.

Heck I was so tempted to buy that southlands books from Kobolt press, yet I realized, Al Quidiem can easily be converted to 5E. Granted it might lack the awesome art of Southlands but any DM with internet access can easily get fantasy middle eastern art online.

Ya its a bit of work, but it does save a ton of money and heck, you can go on ebay and get alot of old supplements for cheap.

As for the OP request as to what I want to see reprinted, nothing really, I would prefer WoTC concentrated on new quality products instead.

I would vote for a 5E version of Psionics. Also Dungeonscape, the Factotum class was one of my favourites. (In fact may have a go at creating a unofficial 5E version). The general advice on dungeons, traps and so forth were very good.

A third or fourth or whatever on Savage Species - I love playable monster characters.

Council of Wyrms - Playable dragons plus an awesome, underrated setting.

Modern/Future - I love mixing fantasy with modern and sci-fi elements. D&D has never really done a modern fantasy setting like Harry Potter or Dresden or whatever and its about time for one, I think.

Second on World Builder's Guidebook - Love that book to death.

Settings
  • Al Qadim
  • Dark Sun
  • Ravenloft
  • Known World Gazetteers

Second Edition
  • 2e PHBR series. Since 3e, I have thought that the mechanical aspects could be done better given unified mechanics of WOTC D&D. I also prefer this format (as well as Green Ronin's Master Class books for 3e and Rogue Genius's Talented Guides for Pathfinder) to the 3e and 4e class splat formats as well as PHB2, PHB3, etc. I want my Complete Fighter's Handbook, Complete Rogue's Handbook, Complete Priest's Handbook (with Specialty Priests), and Complete Druid's Handbook. A Complete Wizard's Handbook that drew from Tome of Magic and PO: Spells and Magic for alternate castings and specialists would also be cool.
  • 2e Historical Reference Books
  • World Builder's Guide

Third Party various editions
  • Judge's Guild Inferno
  • Mayfair's Games's Lizard Men
  • Bards and Sages Shark!
  • Bards and Sages Snakes!
  • Bards and Sages Spiders!
  • Betabunny's Bestiary: Predators
  • Blue Devil's Poisoncraft
  • Green Ronin's Psychic's Handbook
  • Green Ronin's Shaman's Handbook
  • Green Ronin's Witch's Handbook
  • Green Ronin's Book of Fiends
  • Monkey God/Highmoon From Stone to Steel

Eberron Campaign Setting and the Planewalker's Handbook are my two big setting ones, because Eberron and Planescape are my two favorite (though sadly somewhat difficult to merge) settings.

For splat books, I could see Magic of Incarnum... But the thing about Incarnum is that under the current system, "Meldshaper" would be pretty much one class with "Incarnate", "Totemist", and "Soulborn" as subclasses. So maybe it could be merged into a new Book of Magic?

I also enjoyed Heroes of Horror and Libris Mortis. I suppose I enjoyed Heroes of Shadow to an extent as well. But an option that lets you play as an undead is something I'd really like to see. (Hello Playable Karnatthi Skeleton!) Also, Archivist was an interesting class. Though perhaps it might be a subclass of the wizard now?

Um. Oh, and psionics I guess. Psionics is probably its own book, though you could legitimately collapse Psychic Warrior into a fighter subclass.

I'm going to say the Stonghold Builder's Guide book. Its actually a really, really good concept, but the book wasn't that great.
