What races are appropriate to Heroic Bronze (Greece) setting

The various types of Nymph (dryad, nereid etc) were the female equivalent of the Satyr/Faun.

Tritons

There are various types of giants descended from the titans. Perhaps use Goliath stats for creatures with very distant titan ancestors?

The gorgons (medusa and her sisters)

The Spartans were supposedly descended from the men who rose up from the dragon's teeth that Jason planted. That could suggest they are a separate race.

So
Definites: Human, Faun, Amazon
Possible: Centaur (LA +2), Minotaur (DL version), Merfolk (LA +1), Bronze Guardian, Giant-Blooded, Triton,

Could use Elf stats to create a playbale Nymph race
and Spartan maybe Lawful half-Orcs?

Cyclops are a race of giants and probably not appropriate, also not sure I'd let Gorgons be playable as a race

I can see how giving Background Feats would work to create subgroups (eg Spartan Humans), 'Wild' Centaurs, maybe even Bacchae (all Races). Anymore?

As an aside back when I was a teen I dreamed up a world inhabited by metalic people including called The Talos most were Bronze skinned, however their Leaders were known as Aurum (gold-skinned), the Warriors Feros (Iron) and the Psychic Presithood were Argent Mystics (silver)

I drew sketches of them and imagined a world in which the Aurum were engage in a battle with the Feros juggernauts with support from Argent 'magic'

There are fauns (as +0 LA Medium Fey) described in Deities & Demigods, in the chapter covering the Olympian pantheon. You might want to look into that.

There are quite a few half-somethin/half-humans in Greek myth, so standard D&D elf stats (with weapon proficiencies changed) could be used for half-nymphs, half-dryads, etc. Just change the appearance to whatever nymph is included in the ancestry.

Personally, I wouldn't use minotaurs as a PC race, as the original Minotaur was a unique creature, but if you like them, DL variant seems the way to go.

Centaurs probably couldn't be dropped below +1 LA (at least, primarily due to unbalanced ability scores). But you could drop the racial HD, and make them Medium (according to the table 7-1 in the MM, p. 314, Medium cretaures range from 4 to 8 ft. in height, and (if long) 4 to 8 ft. in length).

So, perhaps:
  • +4 Str, +2 Con, -2 Cha: Centaurs are strong and tough, but they have boorish personalities and a superiority complex.
  • Montrous Humanoid
  • Medium Size: No bonuses or penalties
  • Quadruped: Because they have four legs, centaurs can carry 1-1/2 times more than a human with equal Strength can.
  • Speed: 50 ft.
  • Low-light vision
  • Natural attacks: Centaurs can attack with their front hooves. Hooves are treated as secondary weapons (and thus suffer a -5 penalty to attacks), and deal 1d4 points of bludgeoning damage (plus 1/2 Str bonus).
  • +2 natural armor
  • +2 racial bonus on all saves vs. poison: As centaurs have a fondness for alcohol, and often drink vast amounts of it, their bodies have developed a very effective system of countering toxins of all kinds.
  • Due to their body shape, centaurs suffer a -4 penalty on all Climb checks.
  • Weapon Familiarity: Centaurs may treat lances as Simple weapons, rather than Martial. A centaur always uses lance as if he were mounted (one-handed, double damage when charging). [If the campaign doesn't use lances, because they're inapropropriate for the setting, centaurs can use spears and longspears in the same manner (they're treated as one-handed weapons, and deal double damage when charging.]
  • Favoured Class: Ranger
  • LA +1

As for humans, you could go the Oriental Adventures route. There each of the human clans has a favoured class and a skill that is always a class skill for humans of that clan. This is all in addition to the human bonus feat and skill points, naturally.

So you could give Spartans fighter as their favoured class, and Survival as a class skill, while Athenians could have bard as a favoured class (and I can't think of a particuarly appropriate skill; Knowledge (all) and Perform might be good choices), for example.

Fauns (Deities & Demigods) and lesser cyclops could be playable, although obviously the faun is so much more than the lesser cyclop.

Minotaur and Medusa would be unique creatures if you follow closely the model, and would be much more powerful than their D&D versions.

Ancient Kingdoms: Greece

Coming soon from Necromancer Games

Ancient Kingdoms: Greece is a world of great intolerance and new discoveries, of advancements in medicine and physics and of shockingly brutal warfare. Warriors are proud and battle to ensure their feats are emblazoned on the memory of their descendants. The gods are at all times a presence, both subtle and gross, arbitrating and countering each other's supernatural agents.

It is up to the PCs to navigate through the deluge and bring honor to their families, their city-states, and their deity. It will not be easy; monsters of all stripes, bloodthirsty foreigners, and the elements themselves strive against the heroes. But without risk there can be no reward, and no Greek worth his shield would shy away from such adventure.

Welcome to the ancient world.

Here's just a glimpse of what Ancient Kingdoms: Greece contains:

* Introduction (overview of Ancient Kingdoms: Greece and a timeline)
* Chapter 1: Life in Ancient Greece (Home and Family, Pastimes, Religion, Adventure Hooks)
* Chapter 2: Characters (28 city-states, 12 races including amazon, autochthon, cabiro, centaur, cyclops, gorgon, minotaur, myrmidon, nymph, satyr, siren, spartus)
* Chapter 3: Allegiances and Areti (rules on Greek honor and how to use it with the gods)
* Chapter 4: Classes (8 new primary classes, changes to three standard classes, 19 prestige classes)
* Chapter 5: Skills (how skills are used in Greece)
* Chapter 6: Feats (53 feats, including racial feats, creation feats, and flaws)
* Chapter 7: Equipment (overview of currency, new armor, weapons, and transportation)
* Chapter 8: Spells (5 new spells and a domain for each deity)
* Chapter 9: Pantheon (5 planes of existence, and 14 deities)
* Chapter 10: Magic Items (3 new weapons, 27 miscellaneous, 22 artifacts)
* Chapter 11: Monsters (54 monsters, including 7 daimons, 4 drakons, 7 giants, and 7 golems)

I know you were asking about races, not classes but I just thought I'd mention that there is a nice Sage character class in the Players Guide to the Wilderlands (Necromancer-Judges Guild). I could see a sage fitting nicely into a classical Greek setting. There is also an Amazon as a separate human sub-race.
