What resources do you use?

Well, I allow

PHB I and II
MP I and II
DP
AP
PP
AV I and II

and that is it.

I have never allowed Dragon stuff in any edition of D&D and I do not play in FR or the big E, so that is not allowed either. Finally backgrounds seems like a min-maxer's dream, so choose one you like, but there is no mechanical benefit.

We allow everything the PHB's and Power Books as well as Campaign Player Guides.

In the long long run, we'll likely allow the race handbooks, but doing so now doesn't make sense as it just powers Dragonborn.

Hopefully, they'll decide to release the racial books in groups and then I'd buy them:
Player's Handbook 1: Race Compendium
Player's Handbook 2: Race Compendium
Player's Handbook 3: Race Compendium
Campaign Settings <Forgotten Realms/Eberron and Dark Sun>: Race Compendium

From my house rules doc:

Allowed Rule Books: Player's Handbooks, {power source} Power series, Eberron Player's guide, Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (Swordmage, Genasi & their related feats only).

DM Approval Required: Adventurer's Vault, Dragon Magazine, Monster Manual races.

Banned: Weapon Expertise (PH2), Implement Expertise (PH2), Focused Expertise (PH3), Versatile Expertise (PH3), Hide Armor Expertise (Primal Power).

Do you give them bonus to attack instead? Also the HAE feat has been nerfed, so you might want to allow it now.

To add to the topic, I only have PHB1/2, but I do allow players to take from power books if they have the book. I was thinking of allowing Dragon as well (for the first time), any thought on this? Or is it too much hassle and will only lead to regret?

I allow most things with some exceptions. Campaign specific stuff (i.e. Dragonmarks, certain races) is allowed only if we are playing that campaign world. I have yet to see a feat that I would ban.

I've been dropping monster defense, like PirateCat said above. However I don't do it consistently (aside from PHB1 solos), and I'm beginning to lean towards the 'it's not an issue' school of thought.

Monster attacks vs non AC defense are the one thing that I'm worried about at the moment.
