What RPG videos do you watch other than Critical Role?

Morrus

Well, that was fun

What do you watch (as in actually follow, rather than stumble across occasionally)? Critical Role is the big one, but Geek & Sundry do others, as does WotC, just to mention the two 800lb gorillas. There’s hundreds more!

Looking for recommendations for possible future coverage in columns here, so tell me something about it if you can!

For actual play my go to is Roll Play, a series of games streamed on Twitch at itmeJP (archives available on YouTube channel of same name). They always have a number of different games going at once with a rotating cast. It's difficult to keep up to date on these games, so I generally only catch the first few sessions of a game and then fall behind, but I find it interesting to watch different games being played and different styles of play.

I especially enjoy the one shots they run because they can include guests outside the group of regulars (Matt Mercer and Jerry Holkins have both appeared) or they'll have really outlandish themes that can't quite stand for a long campaign but are fun for a single session.

For me, Critical Role's episodes are just too much of a time sink. I much prefer the shorter ones, like Force Grey and Titansgrave.

For game-related stuff, I’ve also been enjoying Nerdarchy’s videos. They do a lot of advice and game theory. There was a recent video that talked about how your dump stat defines your character more than your best stat that I found thought-provoking. Puffin Forrest is one I just discovered. Their videos are short humorous vignettes from various gaming experiences, with accompanying illustrations.

I watched most of the first season of Titansgrave, though episode 9 (AKA Wil Wheaton reads his Titansgrave fanfiction out loud to his players) kind of soured me on the experience.

Don't really watch anything but recently stumbled upon the Adventure Zone podcast, which has been phenomenal so far.

Oh gods, who has the sort of time to watch any of them?

Of course, I'm probably a bad example because I'm notorious about watching very little TV or movies as well.

The major one that I watch is Roll4It. I came into that channel via some of the participants being Youtubers who I already enjoyed watching. It's the only RPG show channel I actively pay money to watch, having subscribed to their Patreon, but all their shows are free to watch live on Twitch or 24 hours later on Youtube.

They've done a variety of shows including D&D and Shadowrun, but the runaway success of the channel is their recently-concluded season of Layla the Vampire Slayer, which gives the original Buffy series a run for its money in terms of both drama and humour.

I also enjoy Leviathan: Distant Stars, a Stars Without Number show from GeekSpaceTV. A fun sci-fi romp with a truly endearing cast.

I don't watch any of them, including Critical Role.

I don't mind sitting in and watching a game in person being played by people I know, even if I'm not actually in the game; but I've no interest in watching a bunch of strangers play when I'm not in the same room or (likely) even in the same country.
