I actually give them both within ~5 rounds of combat. They get the AC when they hit exactly that AC (or miss by 1), and the DR they get around the 10th hit. :)

Everything in action, that has always been random, should remain random.

Everything in character creation can be made non-random, but I would leave the random option (with averages slightly better than the non-random option) in the PHB as exactly that: an option.

I voted that they should be random, but random as they are in SWSE (i.e. the attacker makes the roll, not the defender).

There are diceless games out there and they work... however, I definitely don't even want to consider a diceless D&D.
 

I think they all should be random. Life itself is random, and the games have always been random. Besides, these games have survived in their randomness for all these years for a good reason. They work.
 


I think everything except saving throws should be random, though there's of course the option for non random hp and abilities. But saving throws should be randomized against traps and poisons, ect. which should have a static number that's rolled aganist.
