D&D 4E What Star Wars Saga E. features would you like to see incorporated in 4E D&D and why?

Star Wars Saga edition is officially off my list of stuff to buy this year. At first it seemed a good idea, but after the whole attacks things and the force powers my interest became nil. So I hope nothing from SWS gets in D&D 4e. Heck, I dont even want a 4e.

It hasn't come up, but even before this I decided I'd allow a standard action to be used for a swift action. So if you wanted to cast swift fly and swift invisibility, sure, why not, but you only have a move action left. After all, you could have cast swift fly and the normal, better in all respects except casting time, invisibility instead.

I'd expect that allowing move actions to be used for swift actions is probably OK too as far as spells are concerned.

I'm a little more wary as to how it would interact with Book of Nine Swords...

That might be a good point... but are you thinking about anything specific? Off-hand, it seems to me that, Magic Item Compendium is more like magic than like Bo9S, in that it mostly offers swift buffs rather than swift offense, so that stacking up to three of them in a round seems less problematic.
 


Well, D&D 4E most likely would not have Magic of Incarnum and Magic Item Compedium at the outset, so those issues would disappear. Even if these were incorporated into 4E right from the start, I am sure that they would use somewhat different rules than now, in order to take new 4E mechanics into account.
 

I have to echo a previous poster who said they'd like to see the Force system replace D&D's current Psionics system. Although, in that case, what I'd do is make the Sorcerer a "Force" based class, rather than using Vancian spells. Same with the Paladin, Bard and Druid, keeping only the Cleric and Wizard using Vancian magic (as it's rather iconic to the game). Following Castles & Crusades, remove magic from the Ranger entirely to make him more of a hunter/Scout class.

Heck, I'd like to see things compressed a bit: Fighter, Scout, Cleric, Druid, Wizard, Sorcerer. Bards and Rogues could come from the Fighter or Scout class, Paladins would be Fighters with "Force" abilities.

I love the skill system, but am wary of the new damage system. Talent trees are a great addition I'd love to see. I could picture a Fighter class with trees for dealing damage, gaining defensive skills, or gaining combat-oriented "Force" powers as a Paladin.
 

Add me to the list of those who like everything posted online in the Saga previews, except:

1. Armour. Armour in D&D should be more meaningful/useful. I understand Star Wars must contend with armored Stormtroopers getting killed by a single shot, but D&D doesn't have to deal with that problem.

2. Sense Motive. I can see a synergy bonus from Perception (Search/Spot/Listen), but as someone else said, you need training to understand what a furrowed brow MEANS. I'd rather see Sense Motive rolled into Diplomacy. After all, most of good negotiation comes from being a good *listener*. Not as in "I accurately heard the words coming out of the other person's mouth", but as in "I know what the person saying those words is actually trying to say, and I know his motivation for saying them."
