What supernatural creatures were once human

I had the idea of doing Demons, Dragons or Fae for the third group. Dragons or humanoid dragons, I was not sure on the reason if dragons would fit in horror or supernatural stories. Demons is another but the reason for them not want to stick to one religious myth. Fae, or the Fair Folk, is just having a good reason for joining the war. Like in my 1st post I am wanting to use a group of supernatural types that is common in multiple cultures of myths and religions.

I would like to take an obscure or uncommon yet popular in fiction
Doesn't one sort of negate the other?

You can also take a monster and change its origins. For instance, I took Bugbears. Instead of being Goblins, they are mortals who decided to begin hunting other mortals for sport. Gnolls are hyena who have eaten a mortal's soul, etc.

I mean if you want to specifically stick to mythos... good luck. But if you just want to shine a light on an uncommon but ripe monster, just do so.

Which games or campaigns that has playable characters like these? So far there is Nightbane, World of Darkness, Witchcraft and AFMB that I can think of.
