Since the other poll on this topic was more of a statement than anything else, I thought I'd get some feedback on the question (which interests me quite a bit.) What should a bard class be? Multiple choices allowed to make it easier to choose.

I voted for jack of all trades, face man, repository and gatherer of knowledge, and musician with a spellcasting shtick -- that's pretty much what the bard has always been for me. I have a friend who likes to play bards, and he's done different things with them in different campaigns; I think that's also one of the bard's biggest strengths.

Face Man , Repository and Gatherer of Knowledge and PointMan (as in the Spycraft usage)

Personally I could live without the Spellcasting - and instead make them 'class abilities' (communications, charm and ...)

My latest Bard is a Military commnader who makes Stirring Speeches (Perform: Oratory) in order to inspire his 'troop' - sort of like Hannibal from the A-Team

:D I don't hate the bard, I just see no use for him. Neither do most players I've ever gamed with. A class that "inspires" that much apathy can't be very useful.

I voted this exact same way. I guess the old saying is true.... Great minds think alike. ;)

Wow, our party currently has two bards. They are by far the most useful of characters. Of course I guess it depends on what kind of game is being played.
