What the heck are all these iron/ceramic/poultry DM and NPC competitions?

The idea is based on those Iron Chef competitions, right?

Actually, they were ported over from an Iron Ref themed Pyramid magazine idea. (No link because it is a subscription service.) I think the first Iron DM event even said "Hey I saw this on Pyramid and ...." Someone with search can look that up.

Three competitors. Three minds of the roleplaying world, each representing a different gaming genre, have accepted the Iron Ref challenge.

Three secret ingredients. Selected by a special guest, three ingredients -- plot elements, story pieces, or other oddities -- are selected for the challengers to incorporate into their concoctions.

2000 words. Each competitor has two thousand words -- and no more -- to devise a generic scenario in their genre incorporating all three secret ingredients.

24 hours. And they have one day to work their magic.

Who shall emerge, victorious, as the Iron Ref?

In the original, the Iron Refs represented different genres of role-playing: Horror, Fantasy and Sci-Fi -- giving the competition a feel true to the source material.
