What to do when players surprise you

Hantei the XVI.
You know you deserve anything you get for using a name like that. :p

It sounds like everything goes along with this guy coming along with them. Why not let him. It might be fun to run the game from the POV of the PCs becoming his retainers trying to rebuild his empire of blood. :]

I'vebeen trying to get the PCs in my MnM game to become villains since day one, you're lucky - your's seem willing. :uhoh:

There's only one thing to do really: TPK :]

No, no, no! Players surprising you shows that they are inventive, creative and able to think on their feet. So you must stand up and applaud when they do so. Then - since it also shows that they are uppity little so-and-sos who need to be kept in their place - you TPK them.

As for the original poster, I vote for Hantei being transported along with the mirror. Much more fun, i.e. trouble, that way.

This sounds like a great opportunity to add that functionality to Action Points... jumping on to someone who's teleporting / plane shifting / transporter beamimg is a staple of the genre, and it's a good one.

It shouldn't be an NPC-only ability, and it shouldn't be available without cost.

I always liked the way they did naming in Legend of Five Rings. The emperors are one letter off the word for pervert. The all female unit was named after obsessed fanboys.

Well, who knows if that's how it would work. Two people are seeing the chance for rank and power, another one is seeing a strong leader. Certainly not the reactions I expected.

For good or ill. Though no one in the group is terribly good, and one is evil. One or two characters probably won't like going along with him. But it would certainly be interesting, triggering a certain civil war.

For good or ill, at the moment I'm leaning toward allowing the Steel Crysanthemum to be pulled back with the party. Not set in stone yet, but it's a good storyline. And whether the PC's join in, or fight against him, the game is close to it's end and this would be a suitably epic way to end the game. Still not sure, though.:)
