What to do with a baby Ettin...

If he's big enough to be following you around, he's probably big enough to handle simple weapons. Give him a club and have him carry some of your gear, while you try to teach both of his heads right from wrong. Try to keep him out of combat as much as you can-- but hey, he was just adopted into a rough life.

Unless you can guarantee the safety and wholesomeness of any other adoptive parents you'd choose, it's your responsibility.

Drop the Ettin of at a Temple or Monastery that might try to raise the Ettin child in a more proper "alignment". At best he might have multiple personality disorder... at worst he might have to be put down. So its best in a place with lots of armed people...

A Paladin for sure wont kill a defenseless "baby"... he for sure wont stop whatever he is doing to raise it either.

that;s about the best answer i've seen. :) thanks, i'll see how plausible that is (i should get boocoup role-playing XP for that...) ;)

celtavian - it's world of greyhawk. we just left a dwarven town - don't know how my fellow dwarves would feel about me bringing an ettin among them, but that's one possibility.

ettin troubles

Raise him up to be a good little gigalo, and pimp him out to the ogres for da coppah!
I would make obscene refrence to the two headed thing but Erics grandma is probably loading her shotgun with rocksalt as it is.....

Maybe you could use the "Atonement" spell to make sure, that the Ettin gets a good alignment. Ask your paladin's church about that favor.

Then try to get a look into Savage Species, just in case the baby stays with the group. :-)

But i like the idea to give the Ettin to a lawful-good or lawful monastry. Ettins have the average Wisdom of a human, so this might work and the monks could be willing to accept such an unusual pupil.

Another idea: the Ettin is a Giant. So why not looking for some good or neutral aligned giants to raise the baby?

If you are connected to a LG church, there you go, churches raise orphans all the time. Every couple of months check in on him and see how little Billy-Bob is doing, maybe bringing some rock candy for each of the little buggers.

Otherwise you are raising him yourself which might be interesting RP, but at a pre-verbal age it is not appropriate to take him into dangerous places like dungeons.

I agree.. if your dwarf is a paladin and connected to the church, the line of command is the one that has to deal with the child. Adventuring is far too dangerous to bring a toddler along with you, so he should turn it over to the church. The church will do with it as it sees fit (raise it, make it "repent," whatever) and it is out of your hair and your paladin did the right thing.

Boz you got some good advice in bringing it to your church to be raised. There is a saying that those who battle monster must take care lest they become a moster themselves. Killing the Ettin baby can start ya down the path to burning in hell. Turning over the baby also provides you with a great charcter in the future too. Savage species is out so if your Dm advances the plot line then your all set.

Take it to a Church of Lathander.

Everyone knows the best way to get baby ettin out of your hair is to Lathander, Raise, Repent...

Or drop it off on the doorstep of the nearest good monk cloister. Knock on the door and take off (like none of the monk wouldn't hear you coming anyway); leave a note attached saying something to the effect of "my parents were killed for being evil" and "use the gold in my soggy diaper to finance my education and enormous appetite."

Now, just imagine an Ettin Monk after a few years when the PCs are looking for some extra muscle to take with them on a dangerous adventure... oh yeah.
