What to do with an Immortal cat?

James McMurray

First Post
In my Return to the Tomb of Horrors campaign (see the Story Hour for the surrent situation), the party recently came across a cat that they could not kill. It was otherwise just a common housecat, but had somehow been ensorcelled to make it practically immortal. The party is unsure about, and will probably never know, as they let it escape.

but my question to the group at large is: What do I do with an immortal cat? Its still just a cat physically and mentally, but there's gotta be something fun in there.

I thought about having it breed for a few generations (cats can rush through the generations) and then have Greyhawk city be suffering from an unkillable cat plague, but there's gotta be something better to do.

Put your evil chins to the grindstone and help a felow DM out. :-)

let you players cast awaken then polymorph other to make an invincible companion. You could even let one of the players take it over as their character to add more depth to it. I would be the basis of a whole new mythology or the dawn of a new era in your campaign, when the intelligent polymorphed cat takes over the world.

naw thats just silly, i would say it was an illusion and pretend it never happened.

Hmmm...interesting yet practical methods for reintroducing an escaped immortal cat into your campaign?

1.) Encounter an exhausted dog.

2.) Have a villager mysteriously die of allergies.

3.) In a marketplace, an odd looking rope appears to twitch.

4.) Find a group of children playing with a glass lense. That night see a small fire moving in the forest and hear a faint "meeoow!"

5.) Immediately before an appropriately large beast is slain by the party, have the cat make an appearance from where they'd least expect it. Just remember to quickly depart the party's entrail...I mean trail...

Have an evil druid cast awaken on the cat. The druid's influence over the cat can then turn it evil. Then, have the cat take the Wild Spell feat and start taking levels of sorcerer. He can then become an immortal sorcerer cat bent on world domination. The PCs then have to find the secret to killing this SuperCat.

What to do with an immortal cat? There must be a use for it, but whatever you do, don't come up with a series of elaborate plans to get it killed. Your DM would have no choice but to keep a CD with "The Cat Came Back" on endless repeat by the gaming table in order to drive you hopelessly insane.

No, no, no, just the opposite! Place the cat in an elaborate, deadly trap that resets after each use, and does not allow the cat to escape. Therefore, the cat is killed an infinite number of times (or at least mangled to the point of death before it 'comes back').

Yes, I've been annoyed by the local cats again. ;)

Have the cat follow them around. Not always in site, but rather showing up at the oddest times. At first, they won't realize or won't be certain it's the same cat.

With time though, it will grow to be their mascot.

When the party finally all manages to get killed in one huge battle that just went bad. Have them awaken in a strange, wonderous temple, full of scantily clad women, sauna's, spa's..fresh fruit...palacial opulence, etc.

At that time reveal that the cat was actually the trickster god <insert name here> and he'd been carefully grooming them to do a service for him...now that he's brought them all back to life, they owe him one...of course, he can just return them to being dead if they'd prefer.
