What to do with my first and 2nd edition books...

First Post
We are going to be moving soon into a much smaller apartment. As a result we've had to take a long hard look at what we really need to take with us.

I haven't played 2nd edition in about 2 years and I haven't played first edition since 2nd edition came out.

Is there any kind of market for the books? I've got just about all the first edition hard covers and TONS of 2nd edition material.

Any suggestions?

Go throughthem and keep what you want. Even though you may not play the editions anymore some of the source books are still great. I find myself refering to second edition and first edition books monthly. Depending on how many you have you actually might be able to get some boxes and just box everything up and stick in a closet. It actually doesn't take up as much room. There are great space safer ideas that work great for storing books.

If you must get rid of them, you can either give them away to friends (thus keeping them in the extended family of your gamers) or sell them. There is a used rpg market. Obviously if you need to sell them fast you won't get too much for them, but if you have some time you might be able to make good money on ebay.

I've got a local gaming store that buys used RPG material at 1/4 cover price. Look around your extended area, see if any stores do anything similar. Assuming they take everything you want to get rid of, you make some money (or store credit for more books), and get rid of everything quickly. EBay takes time and effort.

NEVER NEVER NEVER sell/donate/burn old gaming books. You will inevitably wish you had some book or other in a few years and have to go shell out 30 bucks to get a copy from Ebay.

I suggest getting a couple copy-paper boxes, filling them neatly with all your gaming books, sealing them up, and stashing them away in a friends or parents house with a basement or attic. Preferably attic because basements are always too dank and make the books all smelly.

I'm with Sabathius42. I've been there before and there are a couple items I regret getting rid of.

What he said :)

I've lost track of a lot of my old gaming stuff due to various moves. There are very few things I'd have done differently in life if I had a chance to relive it. One was to not carefully keep all my older gaming stuff. The second was to stop gaming for several years. :)

Well, I've decided, all my old books fit into one of those self assembling moving boxes that offices use when they move, you know the kind with handles on the side and the whole thing folds flat but pops into box shape. It can sit easily on the floor of the closet somewhere. Now I just have to convince my wife to put it in the apartment and not our storage space. I suppose I could "buy" space on the bookcase in the office by putting away older computer books I don't read.

Well it depends, what's the wife more likely to pcik on when stuff needs to go the next time around, something hiding in the closest or unused books on the bookcase?

When you answer that make sure to not put the D&D books there and offer up the computer books as a sacrifice.
