If I want to seriously dispel their misconceptions, I refer them to Confessions of a Dungeon and Dragons™ Addict.

Recently someone asked me "D&D? So, isn't that addicting?" I said "No".

But the next day I said. "You asked if D&D was addicting, and I said 'No'. But then I remembered this web article." and I handed her the printout of the abovementioned web article

I do not think I have ever really known anyone who accused D&D of being evil or anything. My parents kind of thought it was a dopey waste of time (kind of hard to argue in the greater sense of life et al) but they never thought it was evil - and I come from a religious family. Now, the area of the country I come from is a little pre-disposed to assume the worst so I did hear a little bit about it being evil growing up but I think my parents were the kind of people who were more concerned about Playboys under my bed than the kind of music I listened to or the kinds of games I played.

I've never done this but have wished for an oppurtunity to do so (it would help to be in a group with other gamers):

clueless guy: What's that D&D about? Is'nt it evil?

Pause...

Me: *blinks*

Me: *growing disbelief* Wait! *mocking tone* You mean you DON'T PLAY?!?

Me: *laughs uproariously*

Maybe that's just funny to me though. :uhoh:

Ha! This had become an injoke in my group ever since we saw a bunch of people walking around at GenCon Indy like this. (Before any V:tM LARPer's throw a hissy, calm down. We just found it humorous that a half dozen people were trying to elbow their way through the masses outside the Dealer's Room and "not be seen" doing it. The constant stream of "Excuse me" and "Sorry" was just too funny).
