What type of magic does a "normal" +1 sword radiate?

Actually - looks both ways -

Malachite just grabbed a really powerful item and didn't bother to try and cleanse it first from any evil taint.

That's certainly not going to come back to haunt him. Nope! No problems there. At all.

How long to determine Arcane or Divine origin?

This doesn't really matter in terms of rules and OOC stuff, but how many rounds would/should it take to determine whether the magic used to create the weapon was arcane or divine in origin?

Transmutation has a slightly less tenuous hold on reality than evocation.

That's so true. My weapon dealer around the corner always says that his machine guns are using transmutation, not that fancy evocation the new weapon laws dictate. :D

Reality's a nice thing. I just don't want it on the table when I play RPG's

I'm making a list of magic items for a recent treasure haul, and I just realized that I'm no longer sure what type of magic a normal magic weapon has. Anyone know?

Thanks!

For what it's worth, IOC we have treated these "normal" magic items as belonging to the Universal school of magic. We have carried this house rule into 3.5 as well. We treat Dispel Magic the same way.

As a DM I allow it in the first round of Detect Magic or Identify.

I like that because otherwise you have to wonder how an Evoker (who banned abjuration) could make magic armor. Or, on the other side how could someone who banned evocation make a magic weapon.

I think I will suggest this to my group as a house rule.
