What unusual geography exists in your world?

I DM in Planescape and it's got more weird places than normal ones. They are well-documented, too. :D

I also DM on dragonlance; in this Krynn, however, Chaos was accidentally released in a circular valley about 10 miles in diameter, and contained by enchanted mithril monoliths. The ground here is completely scorched, and fire dragons fly in circles in the sky, around the 1 mile tall giant of flame that is Chaos and stands in the middle.

*points to his title* If you need more get my books! ;) Just kidding but there are some unsual geographical features to the Scarred Lands, as many will testfiy.

So far, my campaign (Empire of Hismar) has three "unique" areas:

1.) The Great Glacier: This whole Glacier is made of crystalized, pure magic, and was created when the Mage Wars of the Lost Empire of Man escalated. Noone knows how to USE the stuff, and it crawls at a speed of 1 cm a year. Legends claim the Tarrasque runs amok here...

2.) The highest peak of my world can not be scaled. It was cursed by the God of Craftsmen, just before he hid himself away, after Pardos, Lord of the Gods, cursed the people of the Perlions, and almost destroyed them. None, be they mortal or God, may reach the peak, where the Perlions built their last temple in an attempt to sooth Pardos...

3.) The Shadow Isles are, so claim the legends of the Caerdrim, the remains of the stone that Pardos cast. Pardos cast it, so as to sunder the continent into many lands, and to destroy the perlions. Aparrantly, the volcanic fires here have been raging since the begin of time...

That's about it...

The only notable strange terrains in my worlds have been...

A) A mountain in the middle of an ocean, from which a piece had been sheared off by unknown means. The mountain serves as a watchpost for the island kingdom around it.

B) A gigantic whirlpool in the middle of the ocean which can be ridden to the Plane of Air. There, the stream of water passes through the plane in an unending waterfall which several races/cultures live around. It's said to go toward the Plane of Water, but no one has travelled far enough down it (literally) to find out. There's a gate from the Plane of Water to the Prime, but I haven't determined it's form.

C) Similar to the above, there's a large crevasse seperating a large desert and a savannah. The crevasse is populated by Dwarves, and it said to go straight to the middle of the earth. At the bottom is a lost city and a portal to the Plane of Earth.

D) Finally, there's a jungle that's so humid that it's constantly enveloped in a mist. Even at the lightest parts visibility is sorely limited. Something like this does actually exist IRL, but I'm not sure where exactly it was - I just saw a picture and a short description.

The Dragon Graveyard is analogous to an elephant graveyard. It is an ancient and well-sheltered plateau where dragons go to to die. It is filled with skeletal remains of these majestic creatures, and is a magical place closely guarded by dragonkind.

Amazing how post come back around! :)

See, now I feel bad 'cause all I have is an Atlantis-like sunken continent, a created desert (by mages who blasted the landscape), and a Thangorodrim-like evil hollowed-out mountain fortress.
You've also now got a ton of ideas to steal on this thread, though.

Huh?

If you are suggesting that I cribbed this from somewhere else here, this has been part of my game since before 3e, and well before the "3e news" site was a twinkling in Eric's eye. :)

My entire world is surrounded by a grey mist that the inhabitants call the Grey Void. Anyone who ventures in doesn't return, and no one knows why.

The real reason, though, is the mist leads to other planes of existance, and without the proper equipment it is very easy to get lost.

Old boards - I posted location Dragon Graveyard and had my Plateau World. Not saying you got the idea from them but the idea comes back around. :)

I've got another that I worked on last night before I passed out from exhaustion.

Bloodfall Swamp-Located near the edge of the continent of Consoltian, Bloodfall Swamp is located at the end of the Jarull River, and is set 200 feet below the level of the river. Everything about the swamp is poisonous and noxious; it's waters, even those coming over the waterfall that feeds the swamp, are a rust-colored poison with the smell of death. Towering cliffs prevent any part of the swamp from leaking into the ocean to that it borders. The few creatures that inhabit the swamp have all adapted to their environment, becoming immune(and in some cases, internalizing) the poisonous waters. Rumors in the nearby Free Cities say that in ancient times, a mad elven mage built a temple dedicated to a now-forgotten demon lord of disease within the swamp, and that the temple's continued existence is what causes the pestilence within the swamp.
