Heh, a lot has been written about Eberron in the past, and speculations have been abundant even before it was revealed. Two that were quite prominent were:

"It will be psionics-heavy!" - At that time, rumors about the Revised PsiHB started to spread, and it was "obvious" that it would be revised for the Setting Search Winner.

"It will be set during a Golden Age!" - Two or so out of the eleven semi-finalists revealed that their setting was set in a Golden Age at the beginning of time. "Obviously", the winning setting had also won because it included the buzz words "Golden Age", and those who didn't include them were out of luck. And "obviously", WotC wanted a Golden Age setting from the start and "screwed" everyone who did not submit a Golden Age setting.
