A skeleton, or to be precise three skeletons, with a church pew.
I was a human paladin in 2nd ed. I was in church and the priest who had ordained me as a paladin started preaching against the lich queen who had taken over the area. Soon afterwards (while he was still preaching, but after all of the other churchgoers had gotten scared and left, darn stool pigeons) a bunch (I think between 8 and a dozen) of skeletons burst in through the front door, and here I am without armor or weapons... almost made it fair :)

I was like, "I'm really strong, right? Can I pick up one of the pews and throw it at the skeletons?" (I'd actually rolled 18/00 strength, using 4d6 drop)

Only recently stopped playing that character after about 5 years, after the DM decided to convert the campaign to BESM :P

Well there seems to be lots of carrion crawler choices. (I too killed the CC but it wasn't my first). I would make the poll over again if I thought people would vote for it a second time.

Stirge.

We didn't actually own a rulebook. My friend was DMing with the aid of a photocopy of his big brother's Holmes edition rules with scribbled notes in it about how to adapt it to AD&D. I remember handing over several weeks' pocket money for a photocopy of this photocopy of this ruleset.

It was several months before a local game store actually began to carry the D&D rules.

A tiny viper. I was playing Everett Zocny of the clan Goldenbeard, Dwarven Fighter, level 1, second PC made, but first one ever played. The year was 1997. I was 23 years old.

ME:"I'm so pressed for time lately that I have to respond to three related polls all in one instead of individually responding to each!"

MY WIFE: "Why not contentrate on your homework and leave ENWorld until you're caught up?!"

ME: "That's just silly. You know I'm too busy with homework to put up silliness like that!"

MY WIFE: *SMACK!*

ME: *logging off sheepishly*

1st creature killed was a wild boar not sure that counts . 1st non animal was zombies, and to think I remember it like yesterday yet it was 29 years ago. I was a fighter and my friend was a cleric. A party of 2 with no spells and no healing. Good old brown box D&D. How I wish I could recapture the excitement of those days when everything was new and fresh.

A hill giant.

We might have fought some actual first level things earlier, but it didn't register.

All I know was we were walking from one place to another place, someone was explaining the idea of random encounters to me, the DM rolled and made a hissing sound, and then this huge head appeared from over the horizon.

I didn't know any better, I started firing arrows.

Good Grazing Gazelles, that was one scary scary fight.

I believe that I was a Half-Elven rangeress named something like Clue.
