My favorite campaign that I have played in was a Legend of the Five Rings game that retold the events described in Way of the Shadow. None of us had read the books so our immersion into Rokugan was very interesting. I really enjoyed my Shugenja Isawa kaeteru, a void mage.
My favorite campaign that I ran is the Doombringer story for my homebre setting. It was a prehistory game, set before the written history of the campaign world. It allowed me to play with themes on a more primal level, and was actually a big departure from the normal games-while still making sense in the context of what the players already knew.

I tend to favor combat intensive games. So one of my all time favorite campaigns was an old D&D campaign where the DM had a positive genius for pushing the party to the absolute edge of a TPK, but not going over. I think we must have had at least 10-12 combats over the course of a year long campaign in which my character was either the last one standing (with a handful of HP of course) or one of the two characters who were standing at the end of the battle, out of a party of about 8 char, IIRC. The funny thing is that we never even got beyond about 3rd level because we never got the time to train for going up levels. I think my character was closing in on enough experience for 5th level when the campaign kind of peetered out.
