What was your first RPG experience if it WASN'T D&D?

My older brother introduced me to WEG star wars when I was 10-11. My friends and I tried to play AD&D but the guy that owned all the books hated life and made it miserable for us. Then when I was 15 we started playing Shadowrun 2nd. After high school I started playing 3.0 and warhammer fantasy and 40k. Now I have a regular ad&d group that plays twice a month and I just got my buddy into warhammer fantasy.

I was 9 years old and my friend Lance's older bother would run Star Frontiers for us. That was my very first experience with RPGs. We later played basic D&D and eventually moved on to AD&D by middle school. I was in love and my life was forever changed.

Excellent idea for a poll but I think you are going to see a lot of Other because there were some big name contemporaries to early D&D not on the poll like Traveller, Tunnels & Trolls and Call of Cthulhu.

I started in Paladium land. First TMNT and other strangeness then Super Heroes Unlimited. After that AD&D 2nd Edition before heading to a bunch or other systems before 3e then some OGL spin offs.
